A Scientist Just Like Me

Introducing children to a diverse range of scientists and people working in science-related careers.

‘A Scientist Just Like Me’ helps primary teachers challenge stereotypes and broaden children’s understanding of who works in science and the variety of careers available.

The collection features short, illustrated slideshows introducing scientists and people working in science-related roles, sharing their stories and experiences. It also includes 14 videos in which scientists talk about their work and take children behind the scenes of their workplaces.

Designed to encourage classroom discussion, these resources can be used in a variety of ways:

• To introduce children to scientists from different backgrounds and challenge stereotypes about who can work in science
• To make connections between curriculum topics and real-world science careers
• To encourage children to ask questions and discuss the work of scientists
• As short classroom activities, with small groups or in whole-school assemblies

The slideshows and videos can be used independently or alongside existing science lessons to help children discover the people and careers behind science.
