An interactive set of science teaching resources to encourage discussion about health-related issues.

These science teaching and learning materials include activities which are based around a series of resources developed by SSERC. They are aimed at pupils from age 10-14 as part of their science studies or a PSE/PSHE (personal/social/health education) programme.

Pupils will develop the important skills of expressing informed and balanced opinions based on understanding and evidence. Three areas have been developed to support the following science and health issues: Diet, Diabetes and Obesity, The Liver and Alcohol, Vaccines and Vaccination.

What does each activity offer?

The Diet, Diabetes and Obesity Activity aims to develop an understanding of some of the health issues associated with being overweight and to encourage discussion of some of the ways in which individuals and society can intervene in this problem.

The Liver and Alcohol activity aims to help pupils develop an understanding of the importance of a healthy liver and to consider some of the health and social issues associated with alcohol consumption.

The Vaccines and Vaccination activity aims to develop an understanding of immunity and vaccines and the importance of vaccination programmes in general.
