As we prepare to step into 2026, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the work PSTT has carried out during 2025. Supporting and strengthening primary science remains at the heart of everything we do, and this year has seen us deepen our reach, build strong connections and support teachers in meaningful ways. Here are some highlights from the year.
Supporting schools in priority areas
This year, we continued our focused work with schools in Priority Areas, providing intensive support where it is most needed. Working closely with schools across Medway, the North Thames Estuary and Edmonton, we supported science leaders and classroom teachers to build confidence, strengthen practice and raise the profile of science across their schools. We’ve also started working with schools in Wales, with more information about our Priority Areas work in Wales to come.
Growing our College
In 2025, we welcomed six new Fellows to the College, strengthening our national network of award-winning primary science teachers. Through their work in schools and communities, Fellows support professional learning, share expertise and help extend the reach of high-quality primary science. Meeting local needs through Regional Mentors
Our Regional Mentors remained a cornerstone of PSTT’s support in 2025, working alongside schools across England. By taking time to understand each school’s context, Regional Mentors supported science leaders and teachers through tailored CPD, one-to-one support and local networking, helping to strengthen science leadership and classroom practice. Expanding professional development opportunities
Throughout the year, we expanded our CPD offer to reflect the range of needs across primary schools. Professional learning events continue to support science leaders, classroom teachers and ECTs to deepen their understanding and apply learning directly across their school. Registration is still open, with a range of events available across the 2025–26 school year.
Developing practice through Thinking, Doing, Talking Science
Thinking, Doing, Talking Science courses continued to support teachers to design inclusive, challenging science lessons. Through practical activities, discussion and reflection, teachers explored approaches that develop oracy, enquiry and higher-order thinking, taking away ideas that could be adapted for their own classrooms and schools. Supporting teachers at the start of their careers
Supporting trainee and early career teachers remained a key focus this year. Through the Primary Science Enhancement Award (PSEA), over 100 trainee teachers across the UK strengthened their subject knowledge, confidence and understanding of effective science teaching, helping to lay strong foundations at the start of their careers. This year, we also introduced a Remote Route, enabling more trainee teachers and ECTs to develop confidence in their primary science practice. As we celebrate these successes, we remain focused on what’s next. 2026 promises to be another busy and exciting year, with new opportunities to support teachers, schools and children through high-quality primary science.
Thank you to all the educators, partners and supporters who made 2025 such a positive year. Together, we continue to strengthen primary science education – one classroom at a time.
