Is there any cost to ITE providers when signing up to the PSEA scheme?
No cost is involved. We simply ask that you join at least two online meetings: Introductory and Portfolio standardisation meetings. These meetings will ensure providers know more about the scheme’s aims and the process for student teachers when submitting their portfolios.
Can the students use evidence from activities/initiatives/tasks completed as part of their undergraduate or postgraduate programme?
Providing the evidence fulfils one of the optional or compulsory activities exactly then this is perfectly acceptable.
What exactly do tutors need to do in regards to the action plans?
After the initial meeting where the tutor introduces the award, the students can spend time completing their action plan. It is advisable for the students to read the Handbook and explore the activity tabs on the website before they begin writing their targets. It will also be helpful for them to look at the action plan example in the exemplar portfolio to give a flavour of what could be included.
Once completed, the students then share their action plans with their tutor. It is advisable to give the students a deadline, possibly a month after the first meeting, for the action plans to be submitted. The tutor then reads the plan to see if the student’s choice of activities will enable them to meet the criteria. It is also helpful to check that the responses in the rationale statement, areas of strength and areas for development sections are suitably focused. The tutor can then give the ‘okay’ for the student to proceed and complete their activities or make suggestions as to how the action plan could be improved.
The students then begin to complete their activities.
