We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Caroline McGrath last year. Caroline was a trailblazer and an inspiration to all female scientists; her love of science education and its importance in society was abundantly clear. For many years Caroline worked with us at PSTT to run the Primary Science Teacher Awards, travelling the length and breadth of the UK visiting teachers in their classrooms. She was always able to put everyone at ease with her kind and helpful nature and was a huge champion for recognising and celebrating outstanding teaching of primary science. She also acted as a project evaluator, supporting those developing ideas in the classroom to improve primary science teaching and learning. Outside of her work with PSTT, Caroline was keen to learn and share her learning, whether that be regarding nature, sailing or art – three of her favourite passions. She always had a story to tell about a life very well-lived. Those of us who were privileged enough to hear those stories, will remember them fondly. We at PSTT feel incredibly fortunate that Caroline supported our work for so many years and she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts remain with her family.
