David C Lathbury is the VP of chemical development at AMRI. Dr Lathbury has more than 23 years of industrial and leadership experience in process development and optimization, scale up and technical transfer of products in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry. Before joining AMRI, he served as director of process chemistry for AstraZeneca Process Research and Development (PR&D) where he was actively involved in setting global PR&D strategy for AstraZeneca's Discovery/PR&D interface and outsourcing functions. Before AstraZeneca, he spent seven years at Smithkline Beecham Pharmaceutical's Synthetic Chemistry division serving in roles of increasing responsibility focused on process development and technology transfer, culminating in the role of team leader. Dr Lathbury obtained a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and a BSc in chemistry at Southampton University. He also completed postdoctoral research at Cornell University in the United States and Bath University.
He has spent many years actively involved with science education via his interactions with the RSC and various academic institutions both schools and universities. He is currently chair of governors for a large 14-19 community college.
