Primary Science Quality Mark Award Events
PSTT trustees Mike Rance and David Lathbury joined colleagues from the Science Education community at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry and Birmingham’s Think Tank to present Primary Science Quality Mark awards to primary teachers from across the North West and Midlands. These two evenings were part of a series of six award events held across the UK for teachers from the 390 primary schools which have received PSQM awards this year.
PSQM is the only national award programme for primary science. It was supported by a partnership of the Primary Science Teaching Trust and the University of Hertfordshire where the small PSQM team is based.
To gain the award primary science subject leaders join a local PSQM hub and are supported through a year-long audit, action planning, and implementation and reflection process by online mentoring, face-to-face professional development, and an interactive e-portal. Many award winning PSQM subject leaders go on to become Primary Science College members and increasingly are leading their own PSQM hubs.
Participants are overwhelming positive about the impact of the developmental PSQM award programme: "The process gave me a framework to lead change in Science teaching and learning in my school. Science in my school has transformed beyond recognition. I would recommend for every school to become involved." Round 7 subject leader
