PSTT welcomes new Chair of Trustees

We are delighted to announce that Ian Dormer CBE, CDir, HonFIoD, BA (hons) will be the new Chair of Trustees of the Primary Science Teaching Trust. Ian succeeds Mike Rance MBE, who retires from the Trust in April after 13 years service, with 10 years as Chair.

The Trust developed into an important and much needed network to enhance the quality of teaching science in primary schools in the United Kingdom during Mike’s tenure through the direction of Professor Dudley Shallcross.

The strategy of the Primary Science Teaching Trust consists of three approaches: supporting award-winning primary science teachers through the Primary Science Teacher College; supporting groups of schools working together through the Cluster Programme; and supporting research and innovation through Academic Collaborators.

Ian Dormer CBE joins the Trust at an exciting time as it develops its strategy for the next stage in its mission to improve primary science teaching. With experience as Chair of a further education college through to acting as a Trustee of an academy, Ian’s business background running Rosh Engineering gives root to his passion for science in education. Formerly Chair of the Institute of Directors, his commitment to high quality governance was exemplified when he qualified as a Chartered Director in 2013. He is a great believer in life-long learning.

Ian comments:
Mike will be an incredibly hard act to follow as he leaves the PSTT in an extremely strong position. Professor Dudley Shallcross is inspirational in his passion for the sector and with such a great team behind him, as well as a first-class group of Trustees, I am sure we can continue to enhance the great work of the Trust.”

Ian is delighted to be joining the Trust in the same year as the PSTT’s triennial conference, the Primary Science Education Conference (PSEC), being held in Edinburgh in June this year.

PSEC offers outstanding professional development in primary science, with resources and support across the entire primary curriculum. The carefully chosen programme will offer keynote talks, seminars, workshops and shows; delivered by experts.

The PSTT looks forward to welcoming Ian to PSEC in June and to sharing the experience with all of our delegates, exhibitors and supporters.
