Children come to school with a parent, and they learn science together through problem solving and investigative activities
This project provides family learning sessions in science. Children come to school with a parent, and they learn science together through problem solving and investigative activities. These positive learning experiences bring benefits to all involved, and the feedback from the children, parents and teachers was excellent. Children are empowered by learning alongside, and helping their parents. Parents develop a greater understanding of how their children are learning science at school and they value the opportunity to spend some quality time with their child, engaged in something they are both enjoying. Teachers are given quality CPD in science. They also develop a greater understanding of the children by seeing them working in a family learning environment.
This project was developed by Ali Eley, from Hampton Hill Junior School. Ali is a Fellow of the Primary Science Teacher College and the PSTT and Ali are delighted to be able to share this project with you.
Everything that you need to run this project in your own school is available below. Some resources are ready to go as they are and others need a small amount of adapting so that they are relevant to your own school.
Please would you ensure that whatever adaptations you make to the resources, that you leave the PSTT logo and Hampton Hill Junior School logo still there so that they are both publically acknowledged when you use the resources. Thank you.
If you have any questions about the project or how to run it in your school, please do get in touch with Ali on firstname.lastname@example.org
